Cookie and tracking policy

Draft pending legal review. Items marked TBD are not decided yet; contact us if you need an answer before they are.
This page lists every cookie and tracking technology renvalle.com uses today, what each one does, and how to turn it off. It sits alongside our privacy policy, which covers the personal information itself.
What this covers
It covers renvalle.com and the network that delivers it (Cloudflare). It will also cover our checkout at checkout.renvalle.com (run by Shopify) once checkout opens. It does not cover other websites we link to; they have their own policies.
Cookies and similar technologies, in brief
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to keep and send back on later visits. Similar technologies do the same job in other ways: local storage and session storage keep data in your browser, and a tracking pixel is a small piece of code that reports what you do on a page to another company.
Cookies set by the site you are on are first-party. Cookies set by another company's domain are third-party. Some cookies last only until you close the browser (session cookies); others stay until a set expiry date.
What we use now
Today renvalle.com itself sets one cookie, rv_consent, and only once you answer the cookie bar or save your cookie settings. Until then it sets none. It uses no local storage. It uses session storage for one thing, rv-campaign, and only if you arrived through a link tagged with the name of one of our posts or ads. There's no cart or checkout yet: renvalle.com is a launch list today, so the cart and Shopify checkout cookies aren't listed below. The table will add them before checkout opens.
| Name and provider | Purpose | Type | Duration | Party |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| rv_consent (Renvalle) | Remembers your cookie choice (analytics on or off, marketing on or off), so we don't ask on every page. Holds nothing else, such as a name or an ID | Essential | 180 days | First-party |
| rv-campaign (Renvalle), session storage, only after a tagged link | Remembers which post or ad link brought you (for example "instagram"), so a launch-list sign-up on another page is credited to it. Holds nothing about you | Functional | Until you close the tab | First-party |
| Cloudflare Web Analytics (cloudflareinsights.com). No cookie; nothing stored on your device | Counts visits to each page in aggregate, unless you turn analytics off. See "Analytics without cookies" | Analytics | Nothing stored on your device | Third-party script |
| cf_clearance (Cloudflare), only after a security check | Remembers that you passed a "checking your browser" challenge | Essential | 30 minutes by default | Set by Cloudflare on renvalle.com |
| Advertising pixels (Meta or others) | Not used | Advertising | None | None |
Analytics without cookies
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to learn, in aggregate, which pages are read and where visitors come from. It sets no cookies, uses no local storage, and does not fingerprint you by your IP address, browser or anything else, so it cannot recognize you on another day, on another device or on another website. Cloudflare describes what it collects in its Web Analytics documentation.
Analytics is on unless you turn it off with "Reject non-essential" in the cookie bar or the Analytics switch in Cookie settings. Then the script does not load, and the page reloads without it if it had already loaded. Our server also counts page views and a few named actions itself, without cookies or your IP address; the privacy policy lists them. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, the analytics script does not load at all and no visits are counted, whatever the settings say.
Checkout (not open yet)
Checkout is not open. Today renvalle.com is a launch list: there's no cart and nothing to buy yet. When checkout opens, carts and payments will run on Shopify at checkout.renvalle.com, and this page will list Shopify's cart, session and checkout-analytics cookies, their names and how long they last, before that happens. If you want to see them ahead of time, Shopify lists every cookie it can set, its purpose and its duration, in its cookie policy.
Hosting and security (Cloudflare)
Cloudflare hosts renvalle.com and delivers it through its network. Bot Fight Mode is off for this site, and we don't use Load Balancer, Waiting Room, rate-limiting or Always Online, so the cookies those features set don't apply here. One cookie can still appear, and only for security:
- cf_clearance is set only if Cloudflare asks your browser to pass a security check, for example a firewall rule responding to clearly malicious traffic. It stores the fact that you passed, so you are not asked again, and lasts 30 minutes by default. This can happen whether or not Bot Fight Mode is on.
Cloudflare describes this in its cookie documentation.
Advertising pixels (none today)
We do not use advertising or social media pixels, such as the Meta pixel, and we do not send your activity to advertising networks. Cookie settings has a Marketing switch for when that changes; it is off unless you turn it on, and today it controls nothing. We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
No advertising pixel is used today. Before we add one, such as a Meta pixel or a Conversions API, we will update this page and the privacy policy, and add a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" choice here and in the footer if California's CCPA/CPRA requires it for that use.
Your choices
- Cookie bar and settings. On your first visit a bar at the bottom of the page offers "Accept all", "Reject non-essential" and "Settings". Before you choose, essential cookies and cookieless analytics run; nothing else does. You can change your mind at any time with "Cookie settings" in the footer: Essential is always on, Analytics is on until you switch it off, and Marketing is off until you switch it on. Your answer is kept in the rv_consent cookie for 180 days; after that, or if you clear your cookies, we ask again.
- Browser settings. Every major browser lets you see, block and delete cookies and site data. Blocking Cloudflare's essential cookie can stop a security check from working; once checkout opens, blocking Shopify's checkout cookies will stop checkout from working too.
- Do Not Track. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, our analytics does not load and nothing is counted.
- Global Privacy Control. We treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal as "Reject non-essential": we don't show the cookie bar, no analytics script loads and no visits are counted, and switches in Cookie settings can't turn them back on while the signal is on. We will also treat it as a request to opt out of sale or sharing if we ever do either.
Changes to this policy
When we add, remove or change a cookie or tracking tool, we update the table and the "Last updated" date on this page before the change goes live.
